INTERNATIONAL ULTRAMARATHON FESTIVAL
Historical Background of the Race
The International Ultramarathon Festival was first held in 2005 in Loutraki, marking the first major 24-hour and 48-hour race event in Greece. In 2007, the race moved to the old airport of Elliniko (Athens), where several world and national records were set.
In 2024, the event returned to its roots in Loutraki, with the 20th edition scheduled for 2025.
Course and Checkpoints
The race is held at the Municipal Stadium of Loutraki, on a 400-meter track. The looped course ensures constant supervision, a safe environment, and ample support for athletes and their crews.
Checkpoints: Electronic chip timing on every lap, with race marshals present at designated areas.
Aid Station: Each loop passes by a fully stocked table with water, electrolytes, snacks, and warm food options, especially important for multiday athletes.
Elevation Profile
The track is completely flat, with zero elevation gain. This terrain provides ideal conditions for high performance, minimizing the physical strain caused by inclines or descents.
Challenges and Difficulties
Mental endurance is required due to the monotony of the looped course.
Night temperatures: Although Loutraki has a mild climate, nighttime temperatures can become quite cool.
Fatigue management: The continuous nature of the course demands careful pacing, rest strategy, and consistent nutrition planning.
