ORGANIZING COMMITTEE FOR THE 1ST FREEDOM RUN
From Messolonghi to Nafplio
COUNTDOWN
329 DAYS REMAINING
Indeed, the 1st Freedom Run will commence on May 20, 2027, from Messolonghi to Nafplio, following in the footsteps of the Exodus fighters.
Preparations were already completed last April, when we postponed this year's event due to force majeure.
Furthermore, a few days ago, we ran a pilgrimage of the first section of the route from Messolonghi to Glyfa beach, opposite the Trizonia islands. This section is 195 km long, with a maximum altitude of 1529 m and an elevation difference of 6283 m.
This Run served as the initial test for the accuracy of the route planning, the quality of the asphalt and dirt roads, the safety in difficult sections, the presence and readiness of volunteers, the organization of breaks and stations, and the guidance and support of the single athlete who ran.
Giorgos Pantazis, himself a descendant of fighters from 1821, ran to honor the Memory of the Exodus fighters and for us to test that all preparations had been made correctly. It was proven that there were no problems, and furthermore, that the residents of the areas we passed through welcomed us with enthusiasm.
In a few days, the announcement for the 1st Run will be released, which will include 5 routes:
The first is the Run from Messolonghi to Nafplio, with a length of 439.2 km.
The second is from Messolonghi to Platanos, Nafpaktia, with a length of 80 km.
The third is from Messolonghi to Koutsochori, with a length of 20 km.
The other two routes, approximately 8 km and 1 km long, are intended for high school students (Gymnasium-Lyceum) and elementary school students
respectively, and will be confirmed in consultation with the Director of Sports of Aetolia and Acarnania.
Over the next few weeks, we will finalize meetings with the Region Governments of Western Greece, Central Greece, and the Peloponnese, and the 11 Municipalities through which we pass through, to confirm their support – moral and material.
We expect that clubs, volunteers, and local communities will continue to support us with the same enthusiasm as this year.
