PRESS RELEASE GTH MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL 2026 – RACE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Athletic & Cultural Non-Profit Association “Authentic Pheidippides Run” invites you to the GTH Mountain Festival 2026.

The initials GTH stand for Grand Trail Hymettus.

The three-day mountain running festival will take place from 18 to 20 December 2026, on the eastern side of Mount Hymettus, with the Central Square of Paiania serving as both the start and finish area.

The Four Races

• GTH 100+ – Grand Trail Hymettus
100+ km | D+ 5,500 m

• Kallias Trail
37 km | D+ 2,180 m

• Demosthenes Trail
22 km | D+ 1,400 m

• Antenna Vertical Run – Hymettus Antennas Ascent
11+ km | D+ 600 m

The historical heritage of the area is highlighted through two of the festival’s routes.

The Kallias Trail honours the ancient athlete Kallias, part of whose statue was discovered on the eastern slopes of Mount Hymettus, in the area of Paiania.

The Demosthenes Trail honours the great ancient Greek orator Demosthenes.

In this way, the trails of Mount Hymettus connect sport with the historical heritage and memory of the region.

All races are open to men and women over the age of 18.

The Antenna Vertical Run 11+ km is the introductory route of the festival and is suitable for runners taking their first steps in mountain and trail running.

The other routes progressively increase in difficulty and are aimed at athletes with the appropriate level of experience.

The event is organised by the Athletic & Cultural Non-Profit Association “Authentic Pheidippides Run”, with the Municipality of Paiania acting as co-organiser and main supporter, and the Association for the Protection and Development of Mount Hymettus – SPAY serving as a strategic partner for the protection and promotion of the natural environment of Mount Hymettus.
