Spartathlon Qualifying Races – The 2025 Options and Beyond

The Spartathlon is not just a race—it's a historic challenge of endurance, character, and human willpower. Entry to this legendary ultra requires qualification through officially recognized ultramarathon races, designed to prove an athlete’s readiness for the 246 km journey from Athens to Sparta.

These are the only two Greece-based races in 2025 that offer direct qualification for Spartathlon:
Race Announcement – Athens International Ultramarathon Festival 2025
The races will take place at the Municipal Stadium of Loutraki, on a 400-meter track.
Dromos Athanaton – 142 km (October 2025)
A unique autumn race passing through Tripoli, Sparta, Mystras, Kalamata and Megalopoli. Deeply symbolic and demanding, it's a tribute to Greece’s historical heritage—and a Spartathlon qualifier.
All Officially Recognized Qualifying Races in Greece
Even if not all races are available every year, the following ultramarathons are officially recognized for Spartathlon qualification when scheduled:
Dolichos Race – 255 km (Delphi to Olympia)
Rio–Olympia – 144 km
Olympios Dromos – 180 km (Ancient Nemea to Ancient Olympia)
Hyper-Euchidios Athlos – 215 km (Note: Only the Hyper edition counts for qualification)
Tihiorace Ultra Edition (2026 edition)
Atromitos Ultra
Sparta City Ultra
Serres Circuit Run
24-hour Stadium Races (indoor track ultraruns)
