A special mention also goes to Giorgos Logothetis, who claimed an excellent 5th place overall in 22:24:41.
For approximately the final 100 kilometres to Sparta, a fellow athlete stayed with him, running alongside him and supporting him through this demanding part of the race a moment that perfectly reflects the true spirit of ultrarunning.
In the women’s race, Greece celebrated a major victory as Despoina Simantrakou reached Sparta first in 24:45:43, also finishing 13th overall.
Second place among the women went to Radka Churaňová of the Czech Republic in 26:05:56, while another Greek athlete, Lemonia Panagiotou, completed the podium in third place with a time of 26:58:04.
But SPARTATHLON is about much more than positions and finishing times.
Congratulations to every athlete who stood on the starting line. To those who reached the statue of Leonidas, but also to those who were unable to complete the race this time.
Taking on a race of almost 245 kilometres already requires enormous courage, determination and strength.
Once again, this legendary route brought to the surface the true character, resilience and spirit that define the athletes of our sport.
Congratulations to everyone!
